NYS Court of Appeals Ruling

In a final ruling in June 2015, the NYS Court of Appeals found insufficient evidence that the City intended LCG to be a park.  See the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation for current information.  To learn more about the ongoing effort to make the garden permanent, read News.

NYU Litigation

CB2 unanimously rejected NYU 2031; the NYC Planning Commission and the NYC Council approved it.  State Assembly member Deborah Glick, NYU FASP, and a coalition of community groups brought an action to stop NYU from taking some of the City owned strips, which have been used by the community for decades as parks, playgrounds, a dog run, and gardens, and to protect LCG as a “park” under the State’s Public Trust Doctrine.

The Garden’s Future & NYU 2031

NYU plans to build on the one-story supermarket site next to the garden.  The garden will be closed and covered for several years during demolition and construction (what will happen to the plants?).  The new building will cast what remains of the garden in shadow, ending the flower garden cultivated for nearly 35 years.  See NYU 2031 and CAAN 2031.
